In the 19th century, the neighborhood was developed to house the immigrants who worked in the factories which lined Capitol Avenue. The Park River, now underground, once was used as a source of water power by the factories. The Park River Tunnel is accessible near Pope Park for those interested in subteranean adventure. Frog Hollow is now home to an array of Spanish merchants, and purveyors of Caribbean wares. Rumors state that a project is in the works to build a plaza modeled after Plaza Mayor in Madrid at the intersection of Park Street and Main Street, and who knows, maybe someday it will actually happen.
